The Painting Estimate Walk-Through: A Room-by-Room Checklist
A good walk-through saves the job. A rushed one creates the callback. Use the same checklist in every room so nothing depends on memory.
In Every Room
- Measure the walls or note the room size
- Ceiling: painting it or not, and the height
- Trim and doors: how many, what condition
- Current color and new color; dark to light needs an extra coat
- Sheen the customer wants
- Holes, cracks and nail pops to patch
- Gaps to caulk at trim and corners
- Stains that need a stain-blocking primer
- Furniture that has to move, and who moves it
Ask the Customer
- Are colors chosen? If not, book a color consultation
- Any HOA rules for exteriors
- Pets, kids and working-from-home hours
- Where the crew should park
- Access: lockbox, garage code, alarm
Before You Leave
Write it into the estimate on the spot: the areas, square feet, coats, sheen, surface, colors and prep, plus access notes. Then send it by text while you are still in the driveway. See Painting Estimate Software: From Walk-Through to Approved Job.
Why Fields Beat Notes
Every item above has a home on the estimate in PaintingBossPro, so it follows the job to the crew app and the invoice. A note in a notebook does not.
